Alice in wonderland has never been my favourite Disney fairy-tail, but when I heard Tim Burton was about to take this Lewis Carroll story and turn it into one of his trips to the real wonderland, I thought this could have a bit of my attention.
As for fashion world, contrary to what many people might think, it includes the knowledge of a wide range of subjects. For so long, cinema and fashion seemed and continue to be going hand in hand: everyday we see actresses in fashion editorials, films about the world of fashion and designer clothes especially made for the cinema and soon we will even be able to see designer Tom Ford‘s first work as a director (in the movie A Single Man). So it is not a complete new to see designers engaged in a project which is also connected to the cinema. Likely driven by the release of Alice in Wonderland, a few designers (not only clothes designers, but also jewelry) -besides this editorial – created some pieces to for their own Alice. This is the reason why I decided to do more than one post about the subject. For today, stay with “Alice in Wonderland” (#1).
It belongs to Vogue December 2003, the model is Natalia Vodianova and she was only 21 at the time. Her innocent face and blue eyes must have been a decisive factor in choosing this russian model for the editorial.
The cast for this photoshoot also featured the presence of some famous designers such as: Jean Paul Gaultier, playing Cheshire Cat, Tom Ford as White Rabbit, Donatella Versace as Gryphon, the milliner Stephen Jones as Mad Hatter, Christian Lacroix as March Hare, John Galliano as the Queen of Hearts and Karl Lagerfeld. Each one of them was also invited to contribute with a gown inspired in his own Alice.
