2010: Fashion Year in Review

December is that time of the year when you start making plans for the new one and a review of what you did. Regarding several artistic areas (in this case, fashion), it is also time to think of the best and the worst that happened and what were the events that marked the year.

This is Sequin Gown’s review of the 2010 year in fashion.

Spring was far away from its beggining, but H&M was already preparing it in January. This Garden Collection was definitely one of my favorite spring collections of “low cost” brands.

McQueen’s SS’10 advertising campaign was a huge success. Who will ever forget the big snake rolled on Raquel Zimmermann‘s body?

The death of the designer Alexander McQueen shocked the world. A big loss for the fashion scenery, meanwhile Love magazine was making history by making eight covers with nude supermodels. Lara Stone was one of them.

The fashion week in Portugal is always very expected, because there’s not a lot of fashion events going on here. March means Portugal Fashion and Lisbon Fashion Week.

Festivals like Coachella are the biggest arena for street style pictures. No one wants to miss what Alexa Chung or Emma Watson are wearing in the mud.

Fist pictures of the backstage of Pirelli Calendar were reveiled.

Salma Hayek debuts the first Gucci Première (couture) gown  at the opening night of the Cannes Film Festival.

After years collaborating with Topshop, supermodel Kate Moss announced the end of the collaboration with the release of the last Kate Moss for Topshop collection.

A lot of buzz around Chanel Resort Collection. The show was on every blog and magazine. The highlight of the improvised catwalk was the finale, when Georgia May Jagger appeard on a motorcycle.

Many nominees, many winners at the CFDA‘s, on a night where the brighter star was Sarah Jessica Parker, wearing McQueen in an homage to the designer.

The first collection after the death of the designer Alexander McQueen was the Resort 2010.

After the show, Miu Miu‘s “it-dress” made it to the covers 4 times in the same month for different magazines.

It’s fashion month again, but THE fashion event of the year was probably Fashion’s Night Out, especially for those who spent it in New York. Amazing what Vogue did. Earlier that month, Lady Gaga shocked the world by appearing literally wearing a meat dress at the MTV Video Music Awards.

First Sarah Burton collection fully designed and conceived by her. A won bet and the deserved applause of the critics.

To cellebrate the 90th anniversary of Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld hosted one of the biggest parties of the year, the masquerade ball. Who will ever forget Natalia Vodianova and Anna Dello Russo‘s gowns?

I consider Lanvin for H&M the biggest and most important collaboration of the year. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it to the store to buy any of the pieces.

November means the most anticipated lingerie show of the world brought us the usual – and some new angels this year: it’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

The end of the year brought us the biggest and most unexpected surprise: Carine Roitfeld is leaving Vogue Paris. Who will be next?
