Those of you, who are more attentive may have already noticed something that “The Business of Fashion” has brought to my attention once again today: have you noticed the number of “lugagge” inspired bags that showed up on the market the past few months? The modern design of the bag was loved ever since the first time it showed up on the catwalk and other designers could help but to recreate and invent new styles very similar to this one. Thumbs up, Phoebe Philo!

SS’12 Trend report: PEPLUM

n. A short overskirt or ruffle attached at the waistline of a jacket, blouse, or dress.

n. In anc. Gr. Costume, a himation or upper garment, in shape like a voluminous shawl, worn by women, thrown over one arm and thence wrapped in various ways, according to individual taste, around the body, sometimes even drawn over the head. […]

Some of you might have already heard about peplum shilhouettes, very trendy during the New Look at the 40’s.  The news are: it is back for the next Spring/Summer season. Designers like Zac Posen, Yves Saint Laurent and Celine decided to recover the trend and we got to love the idea.

Zac Posen SS’12 collection. Peplum top paired with midi skirt.

Peplum jackets and tops must be worn with tight skirts, as seen in Jason Wu (picture above) for an elegant look or skinny trousers, for a romantic, but still modern look (as per bellow on WWD’s editorial).

During the New Look, looks by Dior.

In with the new, Dior’s new approach to the sillhouette.

Celine‘s minimalistic approach to the shillouette.

In love with this top.

Whether you decide to go for a monochromatic look,  or a patterned look, this is definitely a must for the next season!

Spring/Summer 2011 trends: Flare jeans and maxi

Nothing has more of the 70’s flavor than flare jeans. Emilio Pucci, Céline and Derek Lam knew it, when they designed their spring/summer collections. This type of jeans is perfect if you want to look taller, but don’t forget to wear them always with heels. Pair them with tops whose length only go down to the waist line or with blouses and a belt, like the picture below.

Flare Jeans

Leave it to Jil Sander (first two models at left) to create the perfect maxi skirts and dresses. Along with bold colors (actually, that is another post to write), this was the major trend on his show. There was no such thing as mini skirts on his show. Every single dress and skirt was touching the ground.

Givenchy (third model), on the other side, didn’t abdicated pants, which were sometimes layered with a sheer maxi skirt and Bottega Veneta (fourth model) also preffered light fabrics to add life and movement to his maxi skirts.

Use the last to outfits as an inspiration.

I will never forget that last year, Abbey Lee Kershaw rocked the maxi skirt when people was only about to start noticing them. She is definitely a trend setter.

Hot supporters of the boho chic style, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been wearing long skirts since forever, but you only know something will be a must-have when Olivia Palermo is seen wearing one.

Arizona Muse for Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2011

Yves Saint Laurent left Daria Werbowy and black and white pictures in the year 2010. For the next Spring ad campaign, it’s all about about Arizona Muse and color.

For those who haven’t remark it yet, Arizona Muse – apparently her real name – is about to become the model of the moment. Besides (and before) this ad, Arizona rocked the catwalk in a big number of shows.

At Yves Saint Laurent show, the second model on the catwalk, with the same outfit she’s wearing at the ad campaign.

Danni Roberts from Igor and Andre blog considered her one of the Top Newcomers for Spring 2011 and draw this amazing portrait of her.
